Sun Helps Astronauts

Russian scientists prudently secured space travellers with solar-powered jet packs. In prospect, their latest development will substantially reduce the risk of detachment of astronauts from the ship when working in open space.

The first batch of next-generation lightweight jet packs is to be produced in the next few years. The device will be fastened to the spacesuit with recharging batteries of the electric propulsion engine with solar energy. Experts say, the weight of the pack will not exceed ten kilograms.

Moreover, the scientists equipped their invention with engines fixed on the front of the suit for "brake" function. This innovation will help minimize the risk of collision of an astronaut with a spacecraft during rapprochement.
